Membrane Biogas Separation

Membrane Biogas Separation is a modern biogas upgrading technology that uses selective permeable membranes to separate methane from CO₂ and other gases. It offers an efficient, compact alternative to traditional scrubbing methods for achieving high-purity Bio-CNG.

How It Works

Raw biogas is passed through specialized membrane modules under pressure. The membrane material allows smaller gas molecules like CO₂ to pass through more readily than methane, effectively separating the two. The result is a methane-enriched gas stream suitable for compression, while the separated CO₂ and other gases are vented or further processed. The membrane system can be configured in multiple stages to achieve the desired purity level.

Key Benefits
  • Compact, modular design with a smaller plant footprint
  • Energy-efficient separation compared to some conventional methods
  • Minimal moving parts, reducing maintenance requirements
